ED 870 - Capstone Seminar
Summer 2013
Instructor: Matthew Koehler
The final course in my Master of Arts in Education program was the Capstone Seminar. I had time to reflect on my learning and growth though my time with MAED. As part of this reflection I created this online portfolio to showcase my work and who I am as an educator.

TE 846 - Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Spring 2013
Instructor: Jennifer Knight
Being a general education teacher I don't have the background special education teachers do with working with students with special needs. This course gave me an extensive introduction to accommodations, modifications and differentiation. At the end of this course I analyzed one of the learners in my classroom, developed lessons for that student specifically and followed through with that plan of action. I studied the effects of my instruction as well.

TE 848 - Writing Assessment and Instruction
Summer 2012 Instructor: Lisa Hawkins Writing is powerful and can empower our students as well. This course helped me strengthen my writing instruction by differentiating methods of instruction based on writing genre. This course concluded with me researching a topic in writing that I was interested in. I used this research as I began writing partnerships in my classroom. |

TE 842 - Elementary Reading Assessment and Instruction
Summer 2012
Instructor: Annie Whitlock
A focus of this class was using research-based instruction in our classroom. We studied the best practices of reading instruction and what made an educator effective in teaching reading. As a culminating project for this course I created a Focus Project to help me answer my question, "how do I raise the level of conversation between reading partners in my classroom?" I researched how to do this and used strategies from that research in my classroom.

TE 836 - Awards and Classics of Children's Literature
Spring 2012 Instructor: Laura Apol Awards and Classics of Children's Literature allowed me to explore children's literature, the awards given to children's literature and the classics that have survived the test of time. We examined the makeup of committees who give awards as well as their criteria. Later we explored the value of classics and how classics work their way into other parts of our culture. |
TE 831 - Teaching School Subject Matter with Technology
Fall 2011 Instructor: Akesha Horton Teaching with technology seems like it'd be tricky. While there is a lot involved in how and why we use technology, TPACK - the joining of technological knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and content knowledge, helped me understand how to use technology in my classroom effectively and with a grounded purpose. A technology I used for the first time in this class was iMovie. I made the video on the right to use with my 3rd graders. Since this course I've used iMovie to make videos for me to use in my classroom. My next goal is to have my students use iMovie in the classroom. |

TE 804 - Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice II
Spring 2009
Instructor: Wendy Wahn
In this course I created a series of lessons to teach during a science unit about plants. TE 803 - Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II
Spring 2009 Instructor: Eric Byker During the culminating semester of my teaching internship I took this course with my cohort. I created a unit that I taught in my 5th grade internship placement. My unit covered the thirteen colonies and life in the colonies. I created a wiki for my students to use to record their research about what life was like in the thirteen colonies. |
TE 802 - Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice I
Fall 2008
Instructor: Jackie Sweeney
During the fall of my teaching internship I took TE 802. I explored various research-based ways to teach reading and writing. I developed a fantasy reading unit that incorporated some of those methods and taught that unit to my class of 5th graders. Teacher inquiry was also discussed. I began to keep a journal of my internship experience and learned to value teacher reflection as a way to improve one's practice.
